If you are a Londoner like me, one of the biggest things people joke about with us is the weather. Jokes like ‘is there even a summer in London’? I just want to clarify that there IS summer in London. We even have heatwaves from time to time!
London in the summer is a booming time and I for 1 hardly travel during this time. There is always an event happening, the weather is generally hotter and people are actually nice (something about the sunshine methinks)!
Weather in London tends to vary throughout the year, but I can give you a general idea of what to expect in the summer months in London. These can vary year on year but generally May, June, July and August are regarded as summer months – although September can be quite warm too.
Must have items in your bags during summers in London – a light jacket, an umbrella, sunglasses, SPF 30 and a bottle of water. I have experienced four seasons in one day many more times than I choose to admit. Wake up to Sunny clear skies that turns to overcast, to heavy rain, to thunder and lightling to sunny skies as if nothing happened earlier.
In May, London starts to transition into spring. The average temperature ranges from around 10°C to 17°C (50°F to 63°F). This month can be very unpredictable, with occasional showers, but also periods of sunshine. Sometimes there might even be snow. You might want to bring layers and a light jacket to stay comfortable.
June marks the beginning of summer in London. The average temperature typically ranges from 13°C to 20°C (55°F to 68°F). It is generally a pleasant month with longer daylight hours and a lower chance of rain compared to May. T-shirts, light clothing, and a light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings should be sufficient.
July is one of the warmest months in London. The average temperature ranges from 15°C to 23°C (59°F to 73°F). It can be quite enjoyable, with occasional hot spells. However, it’s still a good idea to have some light layers and an umbrella for possible rain.
August continues to be warm in London, with the average temperature ranging from 15°C to 22°C (59°F to 72°F). Similar to July, you can expect some warm and sunny days, but there can also be a chance of rain, so packing an umbrella and a light raincoat is advisable.
Keep in mind that weather can be unpredictable, and it’s always a good idea to check the local forecast closer to your travel dates for more accurate information.
I will be back with more London tips next week!
