You might have noticed by now, I love London in the summer. Why? So many reasons – the weather generally is better which mean people are nicer. The events you go to. You do not have to hide with a massive puffer jacket. The vibe kind of matches the vibe of when I am on holiday. London is beautiful in the summer.
I have a multitude of reasons why someone might want to spend the summer in London. I have decided to share my personal list of fun things to do in London:
London is a city rich in history and culture, with numerous iconic landmarks and museums to explore. From the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace to the British Museum and Tate Modern. There’s no shortage of fascinating places to visit. Albeit there are some cultural things stolen – we digress.
During the summer, London comes alive with various events and festivals. You can enjoy music festivals like British Summer Time Hyde Park or Wireless Festival. Or cultural events like the Notting Hill Carnival which celebrates British Caribbean culture. Or even smaller vibrant nights out like Somerset house summer gatherings or Koko music nights,
London has many beautiful parks and gardens, such as Holland Park, Hampstead Heath, Regent’s Park, and Kew Gardens. In the summer; these green spaces become perfect spots for picnics, outdoor activities, and leisurely strolls.
The warmer weather in the summer opens up opportunities for outdoor activities like boating on the Serpentine in Hyde Park, cycling along the Thames, or exploring the city on foot. Occasionally there are pop up big screens so look out for those – playing classic movies.
London hosts various seasonal markets during the summer; offering a wide array of food, arts, crafts, and vintage goods. Borough Market, Spitalfields Market, Southbank Centre Market, and Camden Market are some extremely popular ones.
The longer daylight hours in the summer allow for extended exploration and outdoor dining. London’s diverse culinary scene provides plenty of choices for al fresco dining or enjoying rooftop views.
London boasts several open-air theatres, like Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Watching a play or performance in these unique venues can be a memorable experience during the summer.
The River Thames plays a central role in London’s charm. In the summer, you can take relaxing boat trips along the river, offering a different perspective of the city’s landmarks.
Summer tends to bring out a sense of community in London. Locals and tourists alike gather for outdoor events, making it a great time to meet new people and experience the city’s friendly atmosphere.
London’s central location allows for easy day trips to nearby destinations like Oxford, Cambridge, or the picturesque countryside, providing a chance to experience more of the UK’s beauty.
Overall, spending the summer in London offers a unique blend of history, culture, outdoor activities, and vibrant events and you never run out of things to do in London.
Love and Hugs,
