UK Travel Update – January 2023

The current United kingdom travel requirements have changed as of today – 5th January 2023 for all travellers from mainland China. England still has no countries on the red list – although I suspect soon China will be on there.

The Entry Requirements in to England from Mainland China:

• Those aged 12 and over will need to take a Covid-19 test no more than 2 days before they travel to the England and show a negative result before you depart China for England.

This includes if you are travelling through Hong Kong and Macao. Also includes if you are just transitting through England. 

Your test results can be provided as a printed document or an email or text message on your phone.

Ensure your test results have the following:

• Your name (as on your passport – yes including middle names)

• you date of birth and age

• the result of the test

• the date the sample was taken and received by the test provider

• name of the test provider and their contact details

• confirmation of the type of test – whether it is a lateral flow or a PCR (my advice go for the PCR test)

Travellers will be fined at the border if they do not follow the travel rules.

**NOTE** From 8th January 2023, some passengers will be invited to take a voluntary test on arrival to monitor for potential new varians. This will only apply to passengers over 18, arriving from mainland China through London Heathrow Airport.

From all other countries:

• you do not need to complete a UK Passenger locator form before you travel

• you do not need to take any Covid-19 tests before you travel or after you arrive

• you do not need to quarantine when you arrive

This applies whether you are vaccinated or not and includes those connecting to flights via England.
