I have a story to tell – and I am going to explain to you how Roaming Republic restored my faith in humanity last year.
Summer 2022, my confidence in travelling was so badly shaken due to an incident that happened. So much so, I stopped travelling for a while and also it affected my work. I started working in the travel industry full time and now look – I got PTSD getting on a plane.
I have followed Roaming Republic since 2018 as they were an inspiration for me. During the panaramic I started following Cassy on Clubhouse and the rest is history. Yes clubhouse – what a time that was! Anywhooo Roaming Republic always had amazing trips. They always looked inviting but me being an avid solo traveller – group trips were not my thing.
This wasn’t until I made a traveller friend on Clubhouse who was from London who had been on a Roaming Republic trip! Now I had someone on the in and I could ask questions to. It seemed like a time was being had on his insta with these amazing people.
I got intrigued.
The 2021 trip was full but I signed up for the waiting list. Then someone dropped out due to having lady Rona, and I was offered the space. Imagine how excited I was until literally an hour later I got an email from my manager saying someone in the office had tested positive for Corona.
I was LIVID. The only thing I had to change was my LA flight to a Ghana flight and get my visa and ting – but NO! I did a test, praying to every single god in existence that it would negative. Well, I made a mistake because the real God must’ve felt offended and made it come back positive.
Had to hold that L and just ride the disappointment wave. I told myself I will go to Ghana 2022 and so the MINUTE it was announced on the RR Instagram – I made my deposit. I did not care how I was going to get there; I was going to make it to Ghana with Roaming Republic.
Fast forward to December 2022, I was in the group chat, virtually met almost everyone coming on the trip. Even made a friend virtually that I would later be sharing a room with. It was exciting. The zoom calls as a way to be introduced to everyone was amazing.
To summarise the trip is going to be extremely difficult but I am going to try but I wanted to say – I am forever going to be a Stan of RR.
Look out for the next post which will be on the trip it self.
Love and Hugs,
Tillyah x
