When Stormzy dropped “This is what I mean”, my phone downloaded it immediately. I believe by the time I had gotten got to my office, I had listened to the album at least 3 times. Yes, the entire album. So much so I had already decided my top three songs and I had tweeted about them.
To this day – ‘I got my smile back’, ‘Holy Spirit’ and ‘Hide and Seek’ are still my top three songs. When I was at Heavy is the Head tour at the o2 in March 2022, I pre-ordered the album. There was no name announced but I was excited for it. (Which I got in the post the next day). And the cherry on top of the beautiful cake was that we got early access to getting tickets for ‘This is what I mean Day’.
Me being me had absolutely no idea what that was I bought a VIP ticket. (We definitely do not do anything less these days – comfort is key). Stormzy himself said he wasn’t going on tour – he was giving us a festival. Here! In London. He said he wanted bigger and he gave bigger.
Stormzy gave us bigger! I arrived at Victoria Park (east London) READY. As much as it was great to see the other acts like Debbie, Kehlani, Ms Banks, Wstrn and co – everyone was buzzing to see Stormzy. I chilled in the VIP section, drank some cocktails, ate burgers and made some great connections.
Quick shout out to Debbie – met her whilst lost on the way to the entrance. She had a map! Smart girl! Also shout out Pye and Leanne before I get barbecued when they’re next in London. They made the experience SOOO worth it!
Stormzy as the king he is, he headlined the show with two parts (complete with change of outfits!). He gave us nothing but ENERGY! Performed nearly all of his discography and me being the superfan that I pretend I am not – sang/rapped along with him. So much so, there is a clip of me on Channel 4 giving it my all. HAHA
In all honesty, it was me and Stormzy performing and I enjoyed every second of it. The sky opened up and drenched everyone at Victoria (quite funnily) when chorus of ‘Rainfall’. And got heavier when we started praising God with Blinded by your grace. This is my third Stormzy ‘tour’ and I got to say something amazing happens when this man hits the stage.
I am not particularly religious and I try hard to keep my content as neutral as possible. BUT when I tell you the two massive events that Stormzy has held. The Holy Spirit has been not just present but EXTREMELY present. Wild to say about a Grime concert right? Heavy is the Head tour – I went to both the Headline show (Sunday 27th March 2022) and the finale (Tuesday 29th March 2022. Both those days there was a point when I can pinpoint it wasn’t Stormzy any more but the Spirit that lives in him that took over. There was an overwhelming sense of just PEACE.
I do not want to go in to much details but the same thing happened at the ‘This is what I mean’ Day. I truly believe him when he says who he is and who he believes in. The proof is always in the pudding and I love that for him.
Those of you who was not there. You missed out.
Point. Blank. Period.
I had the time of my life and I cannot wait for the next event he decides to put on because I will be there. Whether it is on my own or with people.
That’s it for now!
Love and Hugs,
