So currently the Queen of England, longest reigning monarch in the UK and second longest reiging monarch, is the world is under medical supervision. Her family have all gathered at Balmoral Castle to be at her side which has made many on Social Media (mainly twitter) start speculating that she is either dying or already dead.
No official news have been announced by Buckingham Palace but I know many are wondering what happens next if she does pass on? And what will happen to the country so I thought let me answer some of those questions from my wealth of useless knowledge.
The United Kingdom and it’s 14 Commonwealth Territories will enter an official period of 10 days of mourning commencing the day after the Queen is announced to be dead. Only on the day of the Queen’s funeral will be a Bank (public) Holiday.
The Queen’s funeral will then take place at Westminster Abbey, probably 10 days later. On this day there will be a two-minute national silence, and the Stock Exchange will close. It will also be a National Holiday.
Two in total. The day of the Queen’s funeral and Prince Charles’s Official Coronation Day will be a national holiday. Albeit that the latter will not take place until several months, maybe even a year later. This is in order to allow a respectful gap between the country’s mourning of the Queen and its celebration of a new monarch on the throne.
Prince Charles automatically becomes King of England the moment the Queen passes away. He shall be announced as the new monarch by the Ascension Council in the following days.
Until we get updates…. I will leave it here.
